Experience Matters for Tax Collector
It's important for Tax Collectors to have experience and understand the work they are responsible for. Accuracy and budgeting are key features to the work of the Tax Collector. Tax Collectors that are constitutional officers have control over their budget and can choose the location of their offices, who they employ and the vendors they use. They have significant budgetary discretion.
In Seminole County, the Tax Collector had no tax experience and used $3.5 million in tax payer dollars to hire consultants to help him learn how to be the Tax Collector. This is why electing a Tax Collector that is financially conservative and experienced is important for Volusia County.
